I have a buddy Josh, he's an Airman from Kentucky. The main thing with Josh is he is really country. He's a redneck. Which means he speaks a bit different. He says Worsh instead of wash, he says ice box instead of fridge and thats not even mentioning his accent. That brings me to what I notice from myself when conversing with him, I start to speak with a more "country" accent and he speaks more like I do. This leads me to conclude that we make changes to the way we speak to try to be more like those we are conversing with.
I find this very true. When I speak with some of my cousins from East Stl, my dialect changes vs. when I speak with teachers vs friends, ect.
